University of Edinburgh
Edinburgh is proud to house the oldest English Literature department in the world – people have been studying English at Edinburgh longer than the USA has existed! With a wide range of optional degree modules, including Fairy Tales, Science Fiction, LGBT+ Fiction and Shakespearean Tragedy, Edinburgh has something for everyone. Throughout the digital summer school, you will work on a variety of texts and approaches to reading, and explore the cultural contexts of the work with our fantastic team of academic staff and students. You will develop your analytic, linguistic and creative skills by taking part in interactive online classes, independent study, and engaging group project work. You will also have the opportunity to try out other subjects throughout the week. In recognition of its incredible literary history, Edinburgh was named the first ever World City of Literature by UNESCO in 2004.
Join us this summer to learn a new language and explore exciting cultures! You do not need any language experience to take part, but if you are already adept at languages, we will certainly have a new language that you have not tried before. Edinburgh offers one of the widest range of languages of any UK university, and is ranked 3rd in the UK and 12th in the world for modern languages (QS 2020). Throughout the digital summer school, you will learn a new language from scratch with our fantastic team of academic staff and current students in interactive online classes. You will also explore the culture, history and traditions of various nations through engaging online activities, independent work, and creative group projects. Languages are offered as single subjects or alongside many degrees at university, so join us to find out if languages are for you! You will also have the opportunity to try out other subjects throughout the week.
