University of Edinburgh
Sociology examines how individual choices are affected by wider social forces and how they can be understood by placing them in their social context. You will study the relationship between individuals and groups, issues of belonging and identity, the social causes of cooperation and conflict, and the way societies and social institutions are formed and change over time. By taking part in Edinburgh’s digital summer school, you will be joining one of the UK’s top 5 and Europe’s top 10 universities for Sociology (QS 2020). Throughout the summer school, you will explore the sociological understanding of important issues through a mixture of interactive online classes, independent study, and group project work led by our fantastic team of academic staff and students. You will also have the opportunity to try out other subjects throughout the week.
Join us this summer to learn a new language and explore exciting cultures! You do not need any language experience to take part, but if you are already adept at languages, we will certainly have a new language that you have not tried before. Edinburgh offers one of the widest range of languages of any UK university, and is ranked 3rd in the UK and 12th in the world for modern languages (QS 2020). Throughout the digital summer school, you will learn a new language from scratch with our fantastic team of academic staff and current students in interactive online classes. You will also explore the culture, history and traditions of various nations through engaging online activities, independent work, and creative group projects. Languages are offered as single subjects or alongside many degrees at university, so join us to find out if languages are for you!
