University of Warwick
Learn about the science of health and disease. You will have the chance to explore the biology of health through conducting your own experiments while learning about some of the challenges faced by actual researchers, scientists and clinicians. You will investigate a health problem in the laboratory by initially conducting DNA analyses and physiological measurements. Subsequently, you will examine how technology can be used to detect diseases, monitor patient responses and even guide individual treatment regimens. We will consider stem cells, genomics and more recent advances, such as gene editing. You will also consider the power and pitfalls of advancing our understanding of biology, health and disease. We will discuss the implications of translating experimental science and technological advances into real-world healthcare. Additionally, you will present a group project reflecting potential changes in human health and disease treatment for the future.
