I applied to the program after I applied to the Hull-York WP program and despite getting rejected from there I was accepted...Why did you apply for the programme?
I was born and raised in London but grew up in a Turkish family. My friend recommended the programme to me, saying she had loads of fun and made some great friends.
Did you have any worries before attending?
I was worried I wouldn’t fit in or make any friends… I was wrong. I didn’t go to this expecting to come out with such strong relationships, but there is someone for everyone on the summer course. You soon realise everyone’s on the same boat as you— everyone’s there for the same reasons as you and making friends is a great part of this programme!
What were your highlights of the programme?
Through the academic sessions, I learnt more about university studies on the subject that I had chosen. I gained many academic skills but also improved my social skills by communicating with other enthusiastic teenagers. It was an amazing opportunity to find out more about the university and the surrounding city, which is a great opportunity as it helps you gain a better understanding as to whether or not university is right for you. I really liked my time at the University of Bristol. It really gave me an insight into what university is really like and I will definitely be applying!
What would you say to someone who is unsure about applying?
If you’re thinking of applying, don’t hesitate, go for it! It’s a lot of hard work, long hours of intense academic sessions every day, but very much worth it!
