I applied to the program after I applied to the Hull-York WP program and despite getting rejected from there I was accepted...Why did you apply for the programme?
My name’s Dhwani, I’m from Leicester and I took part in the Sutton Trust UK Summer School programme at the University of Bristol. Let’s just say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I applied for the programme to see what studying engineering might be like and I thought it would also give me an insight into university life, accommodation and the workload.
Did you have any worries before attending?
Looking back, my only worry was if I could make friends for the week. However, once I got there, I realised everyone else was thinking the same thing which made it a lot easier to get to know everyone a little bit better.
What were your highlights of the programme?
After doing the programme, not only have I gained insight into the teaching style at university and the type of modules we’d learn, but also the social aspect and a lot about the student union.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan on going to university to study aeronautical engineering and from there, either go into designing more eco-friendly planes or commercial piloting.
What would you say to someone who is unsure about applying?
If anyone were to ask me, I’d say go for it! You gain so much knowledge and make amazing memories with friends you’ll get really close to by the end of the week. It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
