I applied to the program after I applied to the Hull-York WP program and despite getting rejected from there I was accepted...I applied for the programme as I wanted to gain invaluable insight into university and pursue higher education. I also wanted to find out more about the different societies and student unions available at university.
Before the programme, I was worried about moving away from home and living in university accommodation. However, learning about the different types of accommodation and facilities available at the University of Nottingham has eased my anxiety about moving away from home. I now believe that I will be able to fit into the university well because there is a lot of diversity, and I am excited to experience new cultures.
A highlight for me were the socials provided as this was a relaxing way of ending the evening and opportunity to calm my mind and talk to other people. The student ambassadors were extremely helpful in answering all my questions about university life. I also enjoyed doing the daily tasks as they provided me with knowledge about the University of Nottingham and what to expect if I study there.
Taking part in the programme has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and ask questions in front of a group of people – it has boosted my confidence and allowed me to meet new people with similar interests as mine.
The Summer School has exceeded my expectations – working in small groups allowed me to get to know other people well. Using the Sutton Trust Online platform has also reassured me that I will receive support well after completing the programme.
