I applied for the programme in the hope that I would be able to find out what university life was like. I also wanted to develop on some ideas within Chemistry that I had studied at school such as spectroscopy.
In the run up to the programme, I was nervous about meeting new people online, however, everyone was so friendly. For example, during the iodine clock reaction sessions where I had not fully understood the task, my peers helped and reassured me along the way.
My favourite session during the programme was the chemical kitchen and being able to craft cheese in a scientific way and eating it later on (it was really good). One other element that I found mind blowing was the use of spectroscopy in cancer cell detection, called an ‘Intelligent Knife’.
I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the programme, even through the 30 degree weather and it being run virtually!
