I applied to the program after I applied to the Hull-York WP program and despite getting rejected from there I was accepted...I heard about Sutton Trust through my school. Before attending the programme, I was really anxious about university and was not sure if it was for me.
I really enjoyed my week at the summer school, and loved being able to meet other students from across the UK and learning more about university life in Glasgow University. A highlight during the summer school were the social activities, especially Cleudo and Pictionary – it was so much fun!
Being able to talk to students and staff from different departments, from Dentistry, Medicine and Biochemistry, helped me decide that I wanted to study Dentistry at university. It was so interesting to find out about subjects I had not considered before such as Veterinary Science. The academic skills module during my summer school gave me useful skills I can use in my future.
I also found the personal statements and finance workshops incredibly helpful, as before I had no idea how the UCAS and Student Finance worked. After the summer school, I feel more confident about applying to university and life at university.
I would tell anyone thinking of applying for a Sutton Trust UK Summer School to do it because it was so much fun and I have gained a range of useful skills. I feel more confident now about the university application process and feel like I am capable of studying Dentistry at university. I gained so much from my week and I am so glad I applied!
