I applied to the program after I applied to the Hull-York WP program and despite getting rejected from there I was accepted...I come from the outskirts of Plymouth and have a medical condition called a horseshoe kidney which negatively affects my kidneys filtration rates. As a result of my medical condition, which affected a lot of my childhood, this influenced my decision to apply for this programme as I wanted to find out more about studying medicine at university.
I was initially worried that I would struggle with the social activities as the Summer School was online. To my surprise, it was actually very easy to socialise with everyone as Cardiff University hosted many optional social events throughout the week.
I enjoyed being able to talk to current medical students about their experiences leading up to university and at university. I have also gained a lot of knowledge on the application process for medicine and different social parts of university.
Following the programme, I now want to apply to Cardiff University as my firm choice. In the future, I would like to be a urologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London as they were the hospital that diagnosed me with the horseshoe kidney and were able to help me to live a normal life.
