I applied to the program after I applied to the Hull-York WP program and despite getting rejected from there I was accepted...I originally lived in Mauritius and moved to the United Kingdom when I was 8 months old. I applied as I wanted to get an insight into what a career in medicine would entail. As I did not have any access to any external information about the how to apply for university, I thought there could be no better opportunity to apply for this programme.
At first, I thought it would be difficult to access certain documents and information online, however, I had no issues, and everything went smoothly. A highlight for me was when I got to present a presentation that I made with a group of new people. Despite only a few hours of online interaction, it was interesting to see how we were able to produce a high-quality presentation.
During the programme, it was surprising to gain a lot of skills such as communication, teamwork and negotiation as it arose intuitively. The programme has really built my confidence in my day-to-day life, as I have now started to communicate and share my ideas with others, rather than being shy and keeping all my thoughts to myself.
In the future I would like to study medicine and become a competent doctor, and specialise in paediatrics. Taking part in this programme has provided me everything I need know about applying for university. My future dream and plans are now looking more achievable!
One thing I know for sure is that I will be putting Cardiff University as my first university choice.
