I applied to the program after I applied to the Hull-York WP program and despite getting rejected from there I was accepted...Why did you apply for the programme?
I was raised in Newham, London but my parents are from Mauritius. I applied because I wanted to gain insight into life at Cambridge and what it would be like to make friends at university.
Did you have any worries before attending?
I was worried that I would be the only Muslim there due to the stereotypes of Cambridge students, but when I was there, I realised that there were other Muslims and it was much more diverse than I thought!
What were your highlights of the programme?
I enjoyed dressing up for the formal dinner and having a final, fun night with the friends I made. I have learnt to be more confident when making friends. Everyone is on the same boat, so you shouldn’t feel scared when entering a new environment!
What would you say to someone who is unsure about applying?
I would definitely recommend applying for a summer school as it really helps confirm your decision regarding what university you would like to apply to. It helps to dispel any stereotypes that you may have heard, making you feel more comfortable applying.
