Entry requirements

Have attained a minimum of GCSE grade 7 or National 5 grade B in Maths.

This is a highly academic course where you will be engaging with new content. You should be ready to explore new topics and be challenged throughout the week.

The week will include:
• Programming labs that are accessible for absolute beginners but also allow experienced coders to develop their skills further.
• Lectures on a variety of topics, previous years have included sessions on Quantum Computing and Cybercrime.
• An Algorithms supervision, which is a small group teaching session, where you get the opportunity to learn about different types of algorithms and work through some problems with other students and a supervisor.
• Field trips, such as a visit to the Centre for Computing History which has happened in previous years.

You should apply for this subject if…
• You are interested in learning about different areas of Computer Science.
• You would like to improve your problem-solving skills.
• You enjoy programming and would like to develop your skills or are interested in
learning how to program.

You shouldn’t apply if…
• You do not have an interest in programming or learning how to code.

You will leave the week with
• An understanding of what it would be like to study a practical, computer-based subject at university.
• Improved programming skills or a solid foundation to continue practicing this skill.
• A picture of the current research and development which is taking place in this quickly moving and dynamic field.
