Study two subjects at Edinburgh and pick one to specialise in for an exciting project day! In both subjects, you will work with world-leading academics and recently trained young scientists in lectures, tutorials, fascinating group project work, and practical laboratory experiments.
Chemistry: Chemistry has been taught at Edinburgh since 1713; that's over 300 years of fundamental contributions to chemistry theory and practice! As one of the top 10 UK universities for chemistry (QS 2024), our degree programmes reflect the breadth and diversity of the many global challenges that chemistry has a central role in solving, such as climate change, health, and the environment.
Previous summer school topics include nanochemistry, medicinal chemistry, smartphone spectroscopy, climate change, chemistry in household items, and lots of hands-on experiments in our state of the art laboratories!
Physics: Currently ranked 1st in Scotland and 6th in the UK for physics & astronomy (QS 2024), Edinburgh hosts one of the leading physics departments in the UK. With innovative teaching labs and the UK-leading Royal Observatory nearby, Edinburgh is the perfect place to explore all areas of physics this summer from the smallest particles, to the structure of the universe.
Previous summer school topics include dark matter & exoplanet exploration, particle physics (Higgs Boson), astrobiology, computational physics, statistical physics, and lots of hands-on experiments in our state of the art laboratories!
