Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic

This is a highly academic course where you will be engaging with new content. You should be ready to explore new topics and be challenged throughout the week.

The week will include
• Lectures on a variety of topics, including the histories of Britain, Ireland and Scandinavia, as well as the languages and literature across these countries.
• Seminars with the opportunity to study texts which you have read beforehand.
• A taster supervision session and associated independent self-directed learning.

You should apply for this subject if…
• You enjoy learning about history, particularly medieval history.
• You have an interest in languages and literature.
• You would like to focus on the area of the world containing Britain, Ireland and Scandinavia.

You shouldn’t apply if…
• You would like to primarily study a different historical time period outside of the medieval era – if this is the case consider applying to the more general history stream instead.
• You are more interested in a different part of the world, in which case consider the MML, AMES or Classics streams.

You will leave the week with:
• A better understanding of the history of Britain, Ireland and Scandinavia and how to research this topic further.
• An appreciation for the strengths of working collaboratively with a group of students and academics interested in similar subject material.
