Entry requirements

For some added content on the type of things you will study as part of the Summer School please take a look at the content here, there are also some questions to have a think about at the end.

Have attained a minimum of GCSE grade 7 or National 5 grade B in English Literature. In addition, students must be studying English Literature OR English Literature and Language combined at A Level, IB, Scottish Higher or equivalent.

This is a highly academic course where you will be engaging with new content. You should be ready to explore new topics and be challenged throughout the week.

The week will include:
• Lectures and seminars on a wide range of new and exciting material in the form of poems, plays and novels.
• An introduction to the topic of literary criticism.
• A taster small group supervision session and associated independent self-directed learning.

You should apply for this subject if…
• You enjoy being exposed to new and original literature which you may not have previously been familiar with.
• You would like to better understand what studying English at university would be like.
• You would like to explore the unique library collections available at the university.

You shouldn’t apply if…
• You aren’t interested in studying a wide range of written material.

You will leave the week with:
• An improved understanding of how to make a competitive application to university for an arts based English style course.
• An appreciation for the strengths of working collaboratively with a group of students and academics interested in similar subject material.
