Study two subjects at Edinburgh and pick one to specialise in for an exciting project day! In both subjects, you will work with world-leading academics and recently trained young scientists in lectures, tutorials, fascinating group project work, and practical laboratory experiments.
Mathematics: Edinburgh has a rich history of teaching mathematics and is currently ranked top 5 in the UK for mathematics teaching (QS 2024). As part of the Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Edinburgh forms one of the UK's leading research centres in mathematics. Join our expert academic staff and students for a week of fascinating subject work on our dedicated STEM campus!
Previous summer school topics include Monte Carlo simulations, machine learning, maths within magic, number theory, integer solutions to Diophantine equations, probabalistic & positional games (incl. Markov chains), graph theory, primality testing, statistics, and differential equations.
Biological Sciences: Edinburgh is home to one of the largest biology departments in the UK, and is currently ranked top 5 in the UK and top 25 in the WORLD for biological sciences teaching (QS 2024). Biological sciences explores the study of living organisms, covering everything from the interactions of animals in their environment, to how genes are expressed. With such a broad scope, there is something for everyone on our purpose-built STEM campus.
Previous summer school topics include human evolution & 'skeleton reading', Drosophila genetics, bioluminescent bacteria & water toxicity, community ecology, embryological development, and immunity & disease.
