Entry requirements

Have attained a minimum of GCSE grade 7 or National 5 grade B inEnglish (Language and/or Literature). In addition, students must also currently be studying at least one essay-based subject for A-Level (essay based is defined as any subject that requires the submission of essays as coursework or writing essays for exams as the majority part of its assessment), e.g. History, English, Languages, Geography, Sociology, EPQ, Classics, Philosophy and Ethics, Psychology, Criminology, Law.

This is a highly academic course where you will be engaging with new content. You should be ready to explore new topics and be challenged throughout the week.

The week will include:
• Lectures on a variety of subjects, previous years have included sessions on early modern pain culture and Arab moving image practices.
• A taste of a small group supervision with associated preparation time.
• Tours of relevant buildings and museums containing works of art with additional talks and discussion sessions.

You should apply for this subject if…
• You enjoy learning about art and architecture from all over the world.
• You are keen to develop you visual literacy skills and awareness.
• You are interested in a wide period of history spanning from antiquity to the contemporary age.

You shouldn’t apply if…
• You aren’t interested in learning about art history.

You will leave the week with:
• A better understanding of what it means to study the history of art.
• An improved awareness of the methods used to preserve, study and discuss works of art from foreign cultures and different time periods.
