University of Edinburgh
Edinburgh is proud to house Europe’s largest Informatics research centre, and is currently ranked 5th in the UK and 26th in the world for Computer Science (QS 2021). Computer Science (Informatics) is the study of information, computation and communication in artificial intelligence systems (e.g. computers) and in natural systems (e.g. brains, genes, living cells). You will work with world-leading academics and current students on a variety of topics from theoretical to strong application in lectures, tutorials, and practical group project work. Previous summer school topics include cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, software engineering and development, bioinformatics, robotics, and alien language translation. You may even get to build your own working robot!
The School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh is one of the leading Physics departments in the UK. With innovative teaching labs on campus and the UK-leading Royal Observatory nearby, Edinburgh is the perfect place to explore all areas of physics from the smallest particles, to the structure of the universe. Edinburgh is currently ranked 1st in Scotland and 5th in the UK for physics and astronomy (QS 2021). You will work with academics and current students to explore a wide range of fascinating topics through a mixture of lectures, tutorials, practical laboratory experiments, and engaging group projects. Previous summer school topics include particle physics, astrobiology, dark matter, computational physics, relativity, statistical physics, exoplanets, and physics of the universe.
You will also have the opportunity to try out lots of other subjects at the subject taster sessions, which reflects the flexibility of the Scottish higher education system.
