University of Edinburgh
Home to the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh has strong foundations in politics and political study. Many prime ministers and prominent political news editors are Edinburgh graduates. As Scotland's top university for politics and international relations, Edinburgh offers a wide variety of topics and expertise (QS 2021). You will explore the contexts of domestic and international conflicts about power and resources, the morality of political action, the limits of freedom and justice, and the processes of governance at various levels. Previous summer school topics include democracy and public participation, UK devolution, modern US politics, climate justice, UK Parliament, Russian foreign policy, and writing constitutions. You will work with our fantastic team of academic staff and students to deepen your understanding of the subject through lectures, tutorial discussions, and insightful group projects.
Join us this summer to learn new languages and explore exciting cultures! You do not need any language experience to take part, as we will start with the basics. However, if you are already adept at languages, we will certainly have a new language you have not tried before. Edinburgh offers one of the widest range of languages of any UK university, and is currently ranked 3rd in the UK and 13th in the world for modern languages (QS 2021). Indeed, we are the only Scottish university to offer courses in Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Persian, Turkish, and Scandinavian Studies. You will learn a new language from scratch and explore various aspects of culture, film, literature, music, art and theatre with our fantastic team of academic staff and current students. Previous summer school languages and cultures include Portuguese, Arabic, German, Japanese, Italian, Cantonese, and Russian.
You will also have the opportunity to try out several other subjects during the subject taster sessions, which reflects the flexibility of the Scottish higher education system.
